Brief
Ocean Helper is designed to help solve underwater trash problems. With its mobility and capacity, it can assist divers in cleaning.

Origin
During my summer visit to XiaoLiuqiu, an island renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and thriving fishing industry, I observed the unfortunate presence of underwater litter, likely originating from fishing boats, juxtaposed with the island's natural beauty. Our guide, who was part of a dedicated volunteer group combating this issue, highlighted the ongoing challenge of maintaining the coral reefs. This experience ignited a passion within me to utilize my design skills to raise awareness and seek innovative solutions to preserve this precious ecosystem.

Define

Environment

There is an estimated 75 to 199 million tons of plastic waste currently in our oceans, with a further 33 billion pounds of plastic entering the marine environment every single year.
705,000 tons of this is fishing nets, making up the majority of the waste. However, all sorts of electronics and toys are found lost on cargo ships.
Our coral reefs house some 25% of all marine life known to man. When it comes in contact with marine plastic, the probability of it dying goes from 4%-89%

Debris Underwater

Analysis of ocean sediments from as deep as 3km suggests there could be more than 30 times as much plastic at the bottom of the world’s oceans than there is floating at the surface.

Ocean Helper can take divers to locations faster and provide space for divers to put underwater trash. With these features, divers can clean these two hands without carrying them during the cleaning process. Ocean Helper can record the location of underwater trash so that divers can make a more efficient cleaning plan without overlapping the cleaning area.
